Laminitis Support Consultation
I’ve been helping people with horses, ponies, and donkeys affected by laminitis for more than 21 years. These days I support around 4000 owners a year from New Zealand and overseas, across every form of laminitis, from early warning signs through to complex long term cases that do not follow the rule book.
This is individual support for you and your individual horse. It is not a course and it is not generic advice. Laminitis is a brutal condition. It hurts your horse and it takes a heavy toll on the people trying to care for them.
The aim of this consultation is to help you understand what is happening to your horse, identify likely triggers, reduce ongoing stress within the laminae, and put clear, practical steps in place to stabilise your horse quickly and move into recovery with confidence.
After booking, I will call you directly and ask you to provide a full history of your horse’s situation. We will go through feeding, management, body condition, previous episodes, hoof care, medications currently prescribed or previously used, and any veterinary findings. From that conversation, I assess what may be driving the laminitis and what needs to change first.
You will receive clear, practical recommendations tailored specifically to your horse and your circumstances. The focus is on what is realistic, achievable, and effective in your real world setup.
We will also discuss hoof comfort and recovery support, including boots, padding, movement considerations, and how to protect the laminae while healing takes place.
Where veterinary involvement and medication are part of the picture, I will guide you on what to ask for and what is most relevant. We can discuss appropriate blood tests, x rays, metabolic testing, pain relief options, and medications so that your veterinary costs stay focused and purposeful rather than spent on unnecessary diagnostics. The goal is to help you have informed, efficient conversations with your vet and avoid wasting time or money.
Following the call, you will receive a written summary outlining key findings and next steps so you have a structured plan focused on stabilising your horse and supporting the fastest possible, steady recovery.
This consultation provides individual support not only for your horse, but for you as well. Laminitis can feel frightening and overwhelming. You will have experienced guidance walking alongside you, helping you make clear decisions and move toward a stable and confident recovery pathway.
Response time
Laminitis is urgent. I prioritise these consultations wherever possible and aim to respond quickly. Depending on workload, it may take up to a day to make contact. Taking the time to properly review each horse’s situation ensures the guidance you receive is thorough and targeted.
Disclaimer
This consultation is educational and advisory in nature and is based on the information provided by the owner. It does not replace veterinary diagnosis, treatment, or emergency care. If your horse is experiencing acute laminitis, severe pain, or deteriorating rapidly, immediate veterinary assessment is essential.
All recommendations are provided to support informed decision making. Responsibility for management, care, implementation, and outcomes remains with the horse’s owner or person in charge. Outcomes vary between individual horses and depend on factors unique to each case.
