BITLESS BRIDLE USERS GUIDE

We are pleased to offer three styles of bitless designs, available for purchase on our website. We have rated each style below based on their ease of use and the level of skill required by the rider:

LEVEL 1-SIDE PULL:

These are ideal for all Bitless riders and the easiest design to use. They are well accepted by 99.9% of all horses and are hard to make a mistake with. Therefore, this model is highly recommended for all users and well suited to

new bitless riders, children, and younger teens.

LEVEL 2 CROSSOVER/CROSSUNDER:

These are another fabulous bitless bridle design that give clear and precise signals to the horse, who receives cues from this style of bridle normally in several areas all over the head, much like receiving a big hug, making them ideal for most horses. However, some horses do not like the tightening mechanism around the jawline, which has the potential to cause discomfort and resistance if misused. Therefore, riders need to be mindful of how much pressure of the reins is required and applied with little movement and gentle action, and due to this, the potential to overpull is high.

LEVEL 3 SLIDING CHINSTRAP/SCAWBRIG :

Another fabulous style of Bitless Bridle that offers good refinement. However, this model is only advised for use by skilled and experienced Bitless riders due to the refined use of rein engagement that is required. The potential to upset the horse by the over-tightening of the reins is high on this model- therefore,  it is not recommended for novice Bitless horses or riders. The bonus with this model is that the sliding chinstrap on most of these bridles can often be removed to turn it into a basic side-pull model or clipped into option 1, as shown for the same effect.

Please be aware that horses and riders are unique in their pairings; therefore, this is a general guide only. So, there may be exceptions to this, but as Bitless Instructors, we have found this guide applies to most horses and their rider and therefore hope this guide will help you to choose a suitable bitless model to assist you in getting the best from riding your horse.

Natural Rider Bitless Bridles are made by Natural Horse NZ in New Zealand. They came about as we were looking for an easy Bitless style to use when rehabilitating rescue horses through our horse sanctuary, who often showed resistance to using a Bitted bridle. They took to our Bitless models so well that we simply had to offer our Bitless bridles to others. As we could see that they were making such a positive difference to the horse, whilst improving the relationship with their riders.
