Meet Blossom:

This is Blossom, who is our ex feral “Bull” donkey.

It’s a year since we rescued her from a life that no animal deserves, and from the terrible state she had been abandoned to live in.

When we picked her up she was as wild as a feral burro ( American for donkey) and had very long “slipper” hooves due to years of neglect. Plus the poor girl was suffering from laminitis and could hardly walk, after being left to roam with Bulls on unsuitable dairy pasture, due to her owners erroneous belief that donkeys stop Bulls from fighting.

She was terrified of people and was as full of worms as I’ve ever seen in any equine. She was literally riddled with them.

Since then Blossom has come a long way in that year, experiencing many firsts in our domestic world, such as being handled by people, going in the float, meeting horses, wearing a halter, learning how to walk on a lead, living in a herd with other equines, having her hooves trimmed, and her teeth done, and also having a person of her own, which I’m happy to say is me. I am of course completely smitten with her and am incredibly proud of all the milestones she has bravely achieved. She is just fantastic in every way.

Blossom is a happy little girl these days, and always gives me a big welcome bray when she sees me. She loves her little family in our other two minis and is well loved by her bigger adopted brothers and sisters too.

She adores our big lad Otto and our tiniest horse in little Missy too, who are her favourite friends at the moment.

Working in rescue for all these years, with severe cases like Blossom, we often see the first year to be all about recovery, and that’s what has happened for this sweet little girl. Now she is healthy, hopefully this second year can all be about healing the emotional scars humans left upon her.

This is why Rescue is always my favourite breed Xx
