Brewers Yeast For Horses-Good or Bad?
Brewers Yeast For Horses-All You Need To Know

I often get asked about feeding brewer's yeast to horse's so I thought I'd pop some info here:

Pros

• Supports the hindgut microbiome and beneficial fibre-digesting microbes

• May improve fibre digestion and feed utilisation

• Provides a natural source of B vitamins

• Contains beta-glucans that may support immune function

• Generally safe for most horses when fed in small amounts

Cons

• Can contain moderate to high iron depending on how it was produced, which may worsen already high iron intake from pasture and soil

• Can further imbalance the copper to zinc ratio which is important for hooves, immunity, and metabolic health

• Quality varies widely between true nutritional yeast and brewery waste or floor scrapings from wet brewing residues

• Some horses may develop loose manure, gas, or mild gut irritation if introduced too quickly

• A small number of horses are sensitive to yeast products and may show itchy skin, mild inflammation, or digestive disturbance
