SO, WHAT IS ENERGY WITH HORSES?
People talk about “energy” like it’s some mystical talent that you’re born with, that only “horse whispers” know about with horses, but it’s really not.
As it’s not some vague or spiritual concept.
ENERGY IS BIOLOGY:
Energy is real, measurable biology, coursing through your nervous system as electrical signals coming from the brain to work the body.
Whether you realise it or not, you’re constantly projecting this energy like an invisible bubble, pushing outwards towards your horse, dog, cats and into other people's space all the time.
HOW YOUR HORSE FEELS IT:
If your energy is high, loud, or tense, that’s probably not going to create a connection with your horse and can often have the opposite effect.
This is because your horse feels that energy well before you even pick up a lead or ask for anything. As they are far more tuned into it than most people realise, because it’s a big part of how they interpret the world, how they read each other, and how they’re reading you.
Imagine it like electric pulses travelling through branches, running through your entire body and extending out into the space around you.
HERE’S THE CRUCIAL PART:
If your energy feels loud, busy, or unsettled, your horse experiences it as discomfort, irritation, pressure, and noise. That’s often where fear, flight, or withdrawal can come from.
And it’s not because your horse is being difficult, but because they’re not in sync with fractured, unsettled energy. That’s not how a herd animal operates.
SO HOW CAN WE CHANGE THIS TO HELP US MAKE A STRONGER CONNECTION:
Most people focus on what they want to achieve with horses, such as training outcomes, rather than on the energy they’re projecting.
The good news is that once you become aware of your energy and start to actively settle it to help your horse feel calmer, everything changes for the better.
WHAT YOUR HORSE REMEMBERS:
Your horse normally feels that shift straight away, and that's when they stay, relax, and begin to lean in, because they feel safety, connection, and trust when they are with you, making for a much more willing partnership 🤍
They might forget exactly what you asked, but they will always remember how it felt to be around you.
TRY THIS
So, the next time you're with your horse, take a moment to slow your breathing down, breathing in through your nose, hold for 4 seconds, then slowly out through your mouth, repeating for around 1-2 minutes. Let your body soften. Lower your heart rate… and watch your horse soften, wanting to be with you.
Happy Horsing ❤️🐴:
